Reiki is a Japanese healing technique to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing. Discovered by Mikao Usui in 1922, it is a simple yet powerful technique, easily learned by anyone. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means Wisdom or the Higher Power and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”.
Reiki is a gentle healing practice that brings the body back into balance and promotes feelings of harmony and wellbeing. It is relaxing and calming, working on physical, mental and emotional levels to leave a person feeling calm, and yet more energised and refreshed.
It is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It is very effective, always beneficial and compliments traditional medicine and therapeutic techniques to relieve side-effects and promote recovery. Reiki can never do any harm and you can never receive too much. It always knows where it is needed
Reiki is not taught in the usual sense. Students are attuned to Reiki symbols by the Reiki Master at different levels. Level 1 allows the student to experience tapping into the unlimited supply of “life force energy” to learn self-healing and to practice on self for 21 days. This allows the physical body to absorb this energy and become accustomed to it. After this period of self healing, a student can then progress to Level 2 and be attuned to a higher level, allowing them to practice Reiki on family and friends. Level 3 is the Master Level and the student is attuned to this level which then allows them to work as a Reiki Practitioner. Learning Reiki is not dependant on a person’s intellectual capacity or spiritual development, it is available to everyone and has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
Even though Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God or Source most people find that using Reiki helps them to feel more connected to universal love. It becomes a way of life and it is important to live and act in a way that promotes peace and harmony with others.
So, how does it work you ask? Well, Ki is the life force that enters our physical body through energy centres called Chakras, flows through the meridians and surrounds us with an energy field called the Aura. It nourishes every organ and cell of the body, supporting vital functions. When this flow of Ki is disrupted, we experience pain or discomfort, we experience negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves which causes dis-ease, we are not comfortable and probably don’t even know why!
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. This raises the vibration of the energy in and around the physical body where any negative thoughts and feelings are attached and this causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, allowing Ki to flow in a healthy and natural way once again.
It always knows what a person needs and will adjust accordingly. The practitioner does not direct the healing and is never in danger of taking on the karma of the client or having their own energy drained. If fact, giving a treatment always increases energy and leaves a loving feeling of wellbeing.
