Having suffered with anxiety, stress and depression for a many years, things finally came to a head for me when my lovely Mum passed away. I just couldn’t cope, every day was a struggle. I was a single working mum, trying to keep going so everything was ‘normal’ for my daughter who I knew missed her Grandma as much as I did. Six months later, I was on antidepressants and totally miserable.
Luckily for me, I was offered counselling at the local hospice and I started to attend the Bereavement group there. At one meeting I was offered Reiki. I didn’t know anything about it, I had heard of it, but thought it was a bit woo woo! How wrong was I? I was a bit sceptical walking into that room, but it was so calm and the essential oil in the diffuser smelled lovely. Even though it was only a taster session, I felt totally relaxed. For the first time in many months, I slept through the whole night. The therapist had suggested Clary Sage Essential Oil to help lift my mood, just a couple of drops on a cotton wool ball tucked into my bra, and Lavender to help me sleep. I was amazed.
Sadly the therapist was unable to attend the every meeting, and I never got to see her again. A few months later, I entered a prize draw at an event and won a Reiki session! Even though this was with a different practitioner, the result was the same and I knew I had to learn more. He gave me the contact details of his Reiki Master and a place came up on a Level 1 course the very next week, that I was able to attend. When I wanted a Level 2 course and then Level 3 Reiki Master/Teacher the same thing happened again, Divine timing at its very best!
As a Reiki Master Teacher, I now go to the Bereavement group as a volunteer, to give others the opportunity to try Reiki for themselves. Even though they only have a taster session, I know they feel calmer, more relaxed and sleep better, because they tell me!
I use Essential Oils every day and I choose to use DoTERRA Essential Oils simply because I want pure, quality oils I can use in many different ways. My favourite in an Essential Oil blend called Serenity, I use it as a perfume and simply apply it topically to the back of my neck and pulse points. It is a calming blend of Lavender, Sweet marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood and Vanilla, it is very effective in a diffuser to help with sleep issues, stress, anxiety, tension too!
